tour story

We have special lenses prepped.

We even help with putting them on.

These are no rose-tinted ones, they see things as they are.

Along this ‘Big Road’ (translated to English from ‘Jalan Besar’), on the fringe of city centre, of exceptional convenience for vices to thrive, we head off into back-alleys to view the Uncut version of Singapore.

However, increasingly, it is also a destination for the cool, the fancy, the hip, and in no time at all the new will soon envelope its intangible cultural edges.

A step too late and there’ll be no bling to peel, no hints of the industries that shun the limelight, the pages to turn and expose its underbelly goes crusty.

We’re still ahead of time, but barely. Join us, put on these uncanny objective optics we have arranged for you.

Base Prices:
  • $160 per session (For 2 pax)
  • $216 per session* (For 3 pax)
  • $272 per session* (For 4 pax)
*Discount is valid for limited time period only.
Add-ons (optional):
  1. Your ‘Untold’ ride sweeping you off from one location to our meeting spot @ $20 flat per person
  2. An ‘Untold’ meal of either lunch or dinner @ $30 per person (inclusive of alcoholic beverage)
  3. Additional hour @ $50 if you find 2 hours too short
What do i need to wear or bring?

Bring along (non-single use if possible) water bottle, comfy walking wear and shoes and an umbrella. (we standby raincoats - disposable unfortunately - just in case, all the time)

Is there any covid-19 measures?

Priority is with our guests’ well-being, with that in mind, we require all participants to adhere to following set of regulations and guidelines:

  • A mandatory temperature check will be conducted at the beginning of the tour;
  • Participants who are unwell (eg. with temperature of 37.5 and above) will not be allowed to partake in the tour;
  • Face masks must be put on throughout, hand sanitizers are mandatorily provided to all from the beginning;
  • Observing safe distancing measures throughout is ensured;
  • Partners we work with practice the above faithfully too.

Above measures are understandably disruptive and require plenty of effort from our guests, however, Offbeat intends to meet those high standards to ensure everyone is safe and has a good time with us.

What if it rains during the tour?

For light rains during or before, the Experience continues unabated. In the event of a potential thunderous shower, the host will take a decision 2 hours before our meeting time, and the Experience may be postponed or continued.

Should said shower occur during the tour, the host will take a decision then and there. For all postponements, make up Experiences will be arranged separately.

However, should the weather turn sour while we are deep into the Experience, the host will provide an alternative plan to ensure everyone’s safety first, and carry on as per normal.

What an excellent tour guide Jan is. We felt in very good hands for this ‘different’ tour. Away from modern Singapore, to ‘the way it was’, and also still is for some people, gave us a good perspective of life for the less privileged. A wonderful insight of past entertainment. Jan shared many interesting stories of the areas we walked through together.

Not only was the tour guide very charming and friendly, he also stayed true to the title of the tour by sharing some unfiltered stories about the location. We got a chance to talk with the local resident and go into spaces. We got to see the contrast between traditional and modern Singapore too. Totally recommend taking the tour.

Offbeat is the anti-thesis of most tours that showcases Singapore’s success & achievements. It delves into the realities of urban life, old-new transitions & provide a glimpse into the lives of ordinary folks. Jan shared from his wealth of extensive research & local insights with and impassioned demeanour & helped kept the 2 hour gentle stroll engaging with his carefully curated mise en scene of the various urban landscapes. Even as a local, I was amazed by the unique perspectives I experienced during the tour.

I had been living in Singapore for a while already before I did this tour with some visitors. I thought I've seen most, but our guide Jan showed me all new stuff in my own neighbourhood! He's very knowledgeable and super open to any questions you might have. Did his tour twice now (other visitors) and I expect a third time ;)
